I have been in 'The Business' for decades and am proud to have worked on some of the most well-known TV shows in the UK and the US. As a voice actor, I am best known for my character work for the award-winning The Spiked Eggs Podcast series. I also provide character voices for video games, dub foreign language programmes, voice TV and radio ads, corporate videos, and audiobooks. As a matter of fact, I'll voice anything!
Let's work together!
For me, getting into and building the character from the scriptwriter's words is an immersive experience. I dive into the writer's mindset, absorbing their emotions and bring them to life in the characters I create. Shaping characters based on the author’s words is truly rewarding, as I embrace the writer’s emotions and translate them into vivid portrayals. More on this below in 'The Faces Behind the Voices'.
My production facilities feature a state-of-the-art, fully connected floating studio designed for both offline recordings and remote sessions, boasting an impressive noise floor of -75dB. I utilise a top-notch Sennheiser 416 microphone, a low-noise MOTU M2 interface, Audacity for my DAW, and iZotope RX 11 to ensure exceptional quality in every project!
The studio has proudly hosted an impressive array of high-end broadcast projects, including network television commercials, re-recording and language dubbing, character voice acting for audio comedies and dramas, and video games. It is a place where corporate voiceovers come to life, and audiobook narration and production inspire the imagination.
I'm often asked how I craft a specific character voice, especially in drama and comedy. The visuals in this frame provide insight into my creative process.
Typically, a scriptwriter will provide an image of their character, along with artwork and a detailed description. For me, it's essential to explore the character on a deeper level. I consider whether the character expresses anger or joy, embodies creepiness or aggression, and whether they are youthful or aged, terrifying or endearing. I construct the voice by blending this visual imagery with my imagination, often drawing inspiration from real-life encounters to find the right tonal quality.
Translating the character's emotions into their voice is guided by the script, with the imagery I create serving as a focus for my performance. For instance, in a recent production, I portrayed an evil, flamboyant, bullying tycoon who also happened to be a vampire—quite a theatrical challenge. Part of this process involves remembering the cadence of different voices I've encountered, especially those that stand out for one reason or another. I also allow myself to be vulnerable, tapping into emotions such as anger, deep sadness, or intensity. Delving into my life experiences to bring these emotions to the forefront is one of the main driving factors behind my performances.
